TIP is a non-governmental organization of lawyers established to use the legal system to promote and protect the human rights of the less privileged in Nigeria, in particular, the rights of vulnerable groups.
TIP envisions a country without discrimination, bias, and barriers to justice; a world where every voice count, and the government is accountable and responsible to all.
Our mission is to defend, promote and uphold the rights of the vulnerable group, uphold the human rights through our access to justice program.
TIP advocates against torture and other forms of ill-treatment perpetrated by law enforcement agencies and assist victims to seek redress and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. We oppose the use of the death penalty and advocate for its abolition, calling for the government to pass a moratorium halting all pending executions until Nigeria repeals its criminal laws. TIP provides free legal services to indigent persons charged with capital offences and including those who are still awaiting trials and ensures their right to fair trials is enforced. Addittionally,TIP advocates sexual and reproductive health rights for incarcerated women and girls in Nigeria. It continues to conduct trainings, carry out advocacies and produce surveys to provide information and tools on the need for an effective criminal justice system and the abolition of the death penalty in Nigeria. It also utilizes the social media as a tool for constant awareness and sensitization on the need for abolition.
