World Coalition held 2025 General Assembly in Manila

The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty co-organized with ADPAN its General Assembly in Manila, the Philippines and online on 6-7 June 2025.
Following ADPAN Regional Conference 2025: Re-Imagining a Death Penalty-Free Asia Pacific, 61 member organizations of the World Coalition met in person in Manila and online to participate in the meetings. The General Assembly was also followed by an in-person workshop for FFPA partners.
The online sessions provided fruitful exchanges on working with opinion leaders towards abolition of the death penalty, advancing abolition through an intersectional lens, World Day Against the Death Penalty 2025: The Death Penalty Protects No One, strategic dilemmas for abolitionists, best practices in monitoring the use of the death penalty and co-creating abolition with those who’ve lived it.
The statutory meeting started with a tribute to Sunny Jacobs and saw the adoption of the 2024 activity report and financial reports, the 2025-2026 action plan and provisional budget, the adoption of the World Coalition’s strategy and Action Plan for gender equality, diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as the elections of the new Steering Committee.
In total, 25 organizations(out of 30 candidates) were elected for an effective 2-year term (June 2025-June 2027):
