Building and Sharing Best Practices

on 16 March 2026

The World Coalition, composed of members from both abolitionist and retentionist countries and representing all components of civil society, is uniquely positioned to strengthen the effectiveness of the abolitionist movement through the sharing of skills and knowledge.

We are committed to enhancing the effectiveness of our member organizations by identifying, sharing, and promoting good practices, tools, and strategies—ensuring that the expertise developed by one member is accessible to others. By facilitating this cross-learning and mutual support, we aim to reinforce collective impact and advance the universal abolition of the death penalty.

How we build and share best practices

Based on our membership’s collective experience and knowledge in fighting the death penalty, the World Coalition has developed a series of tools:

  • E-Learning platform: Free and fully accessible on computers, smart phones and tablets, the World Coalition provides online training and advocacy strategies on our E-Learning platform.
  • Guides on “How to abolish the death penalty”, including how to work with the ACHPR, NHRIs, Parliamentarians, as well as including a gender perspective in your advocacy and learning preventative strategies to avoid a return to the death penalty.

National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) role as influential human rights actors is paramount, and as such their contributions to abolition of the death penalty should not be underestimated when developing an anti-death penalty strategy. Expertly written by the President of the of the Beninese Commission on Human Rights, this guide’s content has been bolstered by examples and advice coming from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in the field. Working with NHRIs can seem like a daunting task, especially for civil society organizations that do not have previous experience working with them. As such, this guide has been specifically designed for abolitionist civil society groups around the world, both beginners and advanced activists, with a focus on the African continent.
