Trainee women and gender project assistant position

The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty is recruiting a Women and Gender Project Assistant for the period September 2024 – February 2025.

The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, made up of more than 160 NGOs, bar associations, local authorities and trade unions, was founded in Rome on 13 May 2002. Its aim is to strengthen the international dimension of the fight against the death penalty. Its ultimate goal is universal abolition of the death penalty. The World Coalition brings a global dimension to the action being taken by its members on the ground, sometimes in isolation. It complements their initiatives, while respecting the independence of each.

Tasks :

The World Coalition is recruiting an intern for a period of 6 months, starting in September 2024. The intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Capacity-building support for members on gender issues and the death penalty
    • Supporting the organisation of face-to-face training to help build the capacity of members of the World Coalition on Gender and the Death Penalty.
    • Supporting the development of a “gender and the death penalty” manual
    • Supporting the development of an online training course on gender and the death penalty
    • Contributing to the Gender and Death Penalty Newsletter

 

  • Support for international advocacy on gender issues and the death penalty
    • Monitor United Nations advocacy activities in the countries targeted by the gender project
    • Help organise a CEDAW mission to Geneva
  • Support for the organisation of the World Day against the Death Penalty 2024
    • Supporting gender mainstreaming in World Day 2024 tools
    • Support any other relevant activity related to World Day 2024
  • Support for gender mainstreaming in World Coalition activities
    • Provide logistical support for the management of the Gender Working Group
  • Cross-functional support for the World Coalition’s missions
    • Support the logistical organisation of the Steering Committee (help with obtaining visas, booking flights, hotels, etc.)
    • Proofreading and translations
    • Carry out research and writing activities
    • Produce and distribute communication tools
    • Taking notes

Profile/experience :

– Internship agreement required.

– Training in human rights, political science, sociology, etc;

– Good organisational and writing skills;

– Fluency in one of the two languages: English or French, written and spoken, and professional skills in the other of these two languages;

– Good computer skills, in particular Microsoft Office ;

– Ability to work in a multicultural environment;

– Knowledge of human rights and the death penalty desirable;

– Knowledge of another language would be a plus.
