On October 10, 2015, the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty is drawing attention to the death penalty for drug trafficking, to reduce its use.

Every year, the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty calls for local initiatives worldwide. The events involve citizens and organisations supporting the abolition of capital punishment and comprise debates, concerts, press releases or any other action which would give the global abolition claim an international boost.

On 10 October 2017, the 15th World Day Against the Death Penalty aims at raising awareness about the reasons why people living in poverty are at a greater risk of being sentenced to death and executed.

On 10 October 2018, the 16th World Day Against the Death Penalty aims at raising awareness on the inhumane living conditions of people sentenced to death.

This 10th October, the World Coalition will celebrate the 17th World Day Against the Death Penalty, which is focused on the rights of children whose parents are sentenced to death or executed.

Observed every October 10, the World Day Against the Death Penalty brings together civil society organizations, institutions, legal professionals, policymakers, and citizens from around the world around a common goal: to support the call for the universal abolition of capital punishment.

The World Coalition, composed of members from both abolitionist and retentionist countries and representing all components of civil society, is uniquely positioned to strengthen the effectiveness of the abolitionist movement through the sharing of skills and knowledge.

The Global Consortium for Death Penalty Abolition is a civil society-led initiative composed of 25 abolitionist organizations, including regional networks, grassroots groups, and international NGOs. Established in 2024, the Consortium is funded by the European Union, with which it has signed a 48-month Framework Financial Partnership Agreement (FFPA).

Observed every 10 October, the World Day Against the Death Penalty unifies the global abolitionist movement and mobilizes civil society, political leaders, lawyers, public opinion and more to support the call for the universal abolition of capital punishment.
